IGNORANCE
n. f.

état de celui qui est ignorant. Ignorance grossière. Profonde ignorance. Ignorance excusable. Ignorance invincible. Ignorance volontaire. Ignorance affectée. On a cru longtemps à tort que le moyen âge était un siècle d’ignorance. Croupir dans l’ignorance. Vivre dans une extrême ignorance de toutes choses. Ignorance du droit. Ignorance du fait. J’avoue mon ignorance sur ce point. J’étais dans l’ignorance de ce qui se passait.

Il se dit quelquefois des Fautes qui marquent une ignorance grossière. Ce livre est plein d’ignorances impardonnables.

Prétendre cause d’ignorance signifie, en termes de Procédure, Alléguer son ignorance pour excuse. Afin que nul n’en prétende, n’en puisse prétendre cause d’ignorance. Il signifie aussi, dans le langage familier, Affecter d’ignorer quelque chose.
